Michael Eugene Oliphant, 72, of Seymour passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018.


He was born Jan. 13, 1946, in Seymour.


He attended school in Seymour and then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After working for Cummins since 1977, he retired in 2010. During his tenure at Cummins, he was involved with all of the organizations supported by Cummins.


Throughout his life, he enjoyed boating, bicycling, riding his motorcycle and swimming. He also enjoyed going to Walmart and giving candy to all of the “Walmart girls.”


He was a member of the American Legion and former member of ABATE. He generously gave to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children.


Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Rena Gail Tamowitz, Michael Paul Oliphant and David Scott Oliphant; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Vickey Oliphant (Jeff) Richerson, Patrick (Suzie) Oliphant, Gregory Oliphant, Johnny (Mike) Flinn, Luan Oliphant and Paula Copeland; and many loving nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lily Oliphant; and siblings, Mickey Oliphant, Jackie Oliphant, Kenny Joe Oliphant, Paul Oliphant Jr. and Alvera Oliphant.


The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23 at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Seymour.
